Life Time Paint Warranties
In the last few years, there seems to be a number of companies advertising 25, 50 and life time warranties on painting homes. The problem typically is that they are charging outrageous prices that are not necessary. Before contracting with a company to paint your home that offers such warranties and prices, please get a second opinion from our company.Pamela:
I know there are paints that say they are plastic or an elastomeric. What brand of paint is the company using? I would be careful of anything that is guaranteed to for life. Sometimes the product looks ok, but the color itself can fade depending on the shade/tones. The problem I have heard from homeowners and know about companies that offer life time coatings is that they charge way too much money to apply the paint. I just spoke with someone yesterday who spent $10,000 to paint his very small house (approximately 1700 sq. ft). The company guaranteed the paint for as long as he owned the home. He said they were hard to deal with when they started, and when I looked at the paint, they did not apply it right! The homeowner would not know the difference, but I could tell it was not done properly. If that company goes out of business, this man just paid 50% more than what we would have charged! I would be careful about “plastic” coatings, because I am not sure how well that product can breathe on a home like some of the ceramic coatings out there.
