December Safety Talk
Monday, December 03, 2007This morning our staff met for our monthly Character & Craftsmanship meeting. The staff was reminded about our motto to "do the right thing" at all times. We also had a brief safety meeting which is required by law. This month the discussion was on "Safety At Home." The ratio of deaths and injuries away from work is 3 to 1 these days. People tend to be more careless when they are doing home projects: i.e. standing on a box to change a light bulb instead of a ladder or using flip flops to cut the grass instead of proper shoes. So we reminded our people to take extra precautions when doing work at home.
Being safe on and off the job is a benefit for our clients too. Safety meetings are not necessarily fun and may seem elementary for some of our seasoned painters. However, it is sometimes those simple reminders and talking through the things that can happen that will make us all more alert and careful when we do things. Our clients benefit from safety meetings because they keep our operating costs down. Worker's compensation cost can be lowered simply by having a safety meeting!
