 Cabinet Painting in Chula Vista

Thinking about painting kitchen cabinets in San Diego? There’s so much to be said for the process and its benefits. The key is to really understand what’s involved, and to find and partner with the right cabinet painter. In fact, here’s a quick cheat sheet for you to keep in mind…

Cabinet painting is right for you if…

  • You have good quality cabinets that are worth investing in

  • Your kitchen meets your needs overall

  • Your cabinets are in good condition (not necessarily perfect, but good)

  • You’re ready for updated style but don’t need a full remodel

Cabinet painting is wrong for you if…

  • Your cabinets are in poor condition

  • Your kitchen needs structural changes that fresh paint just can’t fix

  • You’re looking for a cheap update (painting is less expensive than a full remodel, but isn’t cheap if it’s done correctly)

Painting kitchen cabinets in Chula Vista

Let’s look at a perfect example together. Our client’s kitchen in Chula Vista had great bones, but the finish was dated and worn. Since the space met their needs overall, cabinet painting was an ideal alternative to a long, messy remodel, offering a relatively quick way to radically transform their surfaces.

How do you paint kitchen cabinets in Chula Vista?

Every kitchen is a little different, but our steps typically follow this process:

  • First, we come out and provide an estimate. We factor in the materials, condition, quality, number of doors and drawers, existing finish, the kind of finish you’d like to achieve, plus take measurements of the space. We’re thorough so that we can be accurate — no surprises.

  • We’ll then provide that estimate for you to review.

  • Once approved, we’ll move forward with scheduling your project.

  • Next, we prep the space. Floor coverings, masking, total project containment… We know how to do it right.

  • After prep, we begin the disassembly, carefully removing the cabinet doors and drawer faces. They’re labeled and organized for quick reference when it’s time to put everything back together.

  • On to the next phase of preparation, this time focusing on the surfaces. Degreasing, sanding, light repairs, more sanding, primer coats, more sanding, topcoats… You can’t skimp on prep or else you sacrifice finish quality and longevity.

  • Once everything is painted, we bring it all back and reassemble.

  • We’ll do a quick walk through, just to make sure you love how it all turned out.
