Chism Brothers Painting has been in business for close to 30 years but has been painting homes in La Jolla since the 1970s. The Chism Brothers, Mike and Pat Chism, worked for one of La Jolla's most well-known painting contractors at the time, Otto Welp. Mr. Welp operated his paint company next door to Dewhurst and Associates and Harry's Coffee Shop on Girard St. Pat Chism worked for a couple of years before moving into another industry for awhile. Meanwhile, Mike Chism, became Otto's right-hand man and was well liked by all of Otto's clients. After finishing a business degree at San Diego State University and 7 years of working for Otto Welp, Mike Chism was forced into starting his own painting business due to the sudden death of Otto. Mike did not have the funds to buy Mr. Welp's business, so he talked with Pat and decide to open Chism Brothers Painting. The first few years were slow going, but because of the Chism's reputation of not only good quality craftsmanship but high integrity, their business slowly began to deep its roots in the La Jolla community. After many years of serving clients and always doing the right thing, the Chism Brothers became the painting company of choice in the La Jolla community.
