It's hard to believe we launched our first website for Chism Brothers Painting over 26 years ago. Back in 1998, it was rare for painting companies to have an online presence. Finding a few painting companies for bids was relatively straightforward in the early days of the internet. Now, San Diego homeowners have the luxury of easily finding hundreds of painting services online in America's finest city. Additionally, numerous review sites like Angi, Yelp, Home Advisor, Google Guarantee and others offer their preferred choices, significantly expanding options for consumers. However, it's important to recognize that securing a top listing often requires significant investment. When you search these review sites for "the best," there's no guarantee you're truly seeing the top options. The highest quality providers might not advertise on these platforms. Unlike those sites, this blog doesn't cost me anything to share with you! So if you've stumbled upon this article, enjoy the free insights! I hope you find it useful as you consider your options for hiring a painter.
This leads me to the purpose of this blog post. At Chism Brothers Painting, we openly acknowledge the competition—of which there is plenty, thanks to the ever-expanding internet. Nevertheless, I believe in transparency regarding who I view as our top 3 painting competitors in San Diego. This information may help narrow down your search. Having been in business since 1982, our family has been involved in the painting industry across three generations in San Diego, witnessing the evolution of local painting companies. The three painting companies below have been around for over 30 years and have been known to treat their customers well and do a good paint job. They all have their differences and price points too.
Brad Stoner Painting: Brad launched his painting business around 1986 and has excelled in marketing his services. Specializing in both commercial and residential repaints, he has carved out a niche for general repaint projects, although high-end restoration and custom jobs are less common in his portfolio. The past decade or so, we've seen him expand heavier in to commercial painting projects as well.
King of the Painters: My interactions with King of the Painters have been limited over the years, but they have a long-standing presence in San Diego, offering both commercial and residential repaint services since 1975.
Paint Green & Peek Brothers Painting: Originally established in 1981 by John and Ned Peek, the company has been under the sole leadership of John Peek for the past 20 years, specializing in high-end residential repaints, especially in coastal areas. John has always been a valued friend to my dad, Mike Chism. However, in a significant industry development, John sold Peek Brothers Painting to PaintGreen a couple of years ago, a company that was a direct competitor to both Peek Brothers and Chism Brothers. The owner of PaintGreen now operates both entities under their respective names, maintaining their unique brand identities while overseeing their combined operations.
It's important to clarify that this list is not an endorsement but rather a recognition of well-known companies in the area, particularly those we often encounter or hear about.
