Is it better to hire an in-house painting company or a subcontractor?
There are pros and cons of both hiring an in-house contractor or hiring a sub-contractor for a paint job, but in San Diego, more favor goes to hiring just one main contractor.
As far as subcontractors go, here are some of the advantages:
-
They can be cheaper.
-
They can be more flexible with work hours.
Some of the disadvantages are:
-
You won’t be as informed of what’s going on.
-
You can’t always guarantee the quality of the subcontractor’s work.
-
They may not be around the next time you need something done to your property.
There are very few disadvantages with working with an in-house contractor, but one is that:
-
There may be a higher fixed cost due to having a full time staff.
The advantages of in-house contractors are:
-
With an in-house contractor, you have better management and better oversight of the project.
-
Usually it is more stable to higher a direct painting company because you have more control with the quality, the scheduling, and response time.
-
A quality company, with a good reputation, will be around when you need them for future projects whereas sub contractors go in and out of business.
Even though people tend to think that hiring a sub-contractor is cheaper, it can sometimes end up being more expensive since you’re hiring two contractors. There’s no universal answer. Subcontracting doesn’t always work out, but other times it does; and the same goes for in-house. But typically it is more efficient, and more times than not, working with one main contractor results in a happy customer.
