Exterior Painting and Refinishing in La Mesa - Bringing a Historic Home Back to Life!
We recently finished an exterior painting and refinishing project for a client in La Mesa. The wear and decay around the edges of this historic home are a prime example of what can happen over time when your exterior isn’t regularly maintained, repaired, and painted.
The good news is that, while the prep work for this home called for more attention and time than almost any other we have encountered, we were able to pull this property back to its former glory. Take a look at the pictures above and project info below!
Sanding, Priming, Patching, and Painting…
Our work really revolved around four trouble areas: a garage door, windows, french doors, and eaves/rafters . You can see the progression of events in these pictures, as well as the very best part: the transformation!
For the wood, our process involved scraping, sanding, priming, patching, sanding and priming again, caulk, and two finish coats (as well as a liquid mask on the windows). Taking the time to treat and restore the woodwork properly let us not only put an attractive face on the worn spots around this home, but also ensure that everything was just as solid as could be underneath the fresh paint. The general primer we chose to use was Bio-Control Prime-N-Seal.
The metal windows were badly rusted. Our process to breathe some fresh life into them involved sanding off scaling rust, cleaning them with Jasco metal/rust prep , and then priming them with a very good rust primer/encapsulator called Rust Grip .
