Garage and Front Door Refinishing in Point Loma

March 4, 2014

Point Loma Project Overview

This project was at a home in Point Loma where we stripped and refinished the front door assembly and garage doors. The previous stain job was applied when the doors were new and it had darkened on the garage doors and lightened on the front doors. The original product used was TWP and the customers were never happy with it, apparently it had taken a long time to cure, remained sticky for months and collected a lot of dust and debris; this was probably because of multiple coats applied to get the two sets of doors to match since the front door is a different type of cedar than the garage doors. So the homeowner wanted us to fix the doors and restore uniformity to them with a matching stain.

Project Description

We power and hand sand stripped both sets of doors to bare wood then applied 3 coats of Cetol Door and Window Marine Varnish. To get the garage doors and front doors to match we used Cetol Dark Oak on the front door then a 4 to 1 mix of Cetol Clear and Cetol Dark Oak. Then we did two following coats of 4 to 1 clear-dark oak on both sets. They all matched perfectly, cured in a couple days, and the customer was very happy with the finished results.
