Repairing Dry Rot and Termite Damage in La Jolla

La Jolla's Trusted Painting Company Since 1982 Even though it’s not particularly fun to think about, your home faces a huge number of environmental factors that are all interested in just one thing: breaking down your exterior surfaces. These factors include water, insects, airborne pollutants, rot, age, poor quality coatings, rambunctious kids, and the list goes on...

The intensity factor jumps up a couple of levels when you live by the water and have moisture-laden air saturating your home. You may love living by the beach, but your property most likely doesn’t...

For this particular client in La Jolla , their home was facing not only the threats that come from living by the water (just across the street!), but it also carried the marks of those masters of industry and destruction: termites.

What Kind of Exterior Repairs Did We Do?

This home had several points that needed assistance because of dry rot , a high moisture content, and (you guessed it) termite damage.

We’ll let the photos in the slideshow above do most of the talking, but here’s a breakdown of the work that we did:

  • First, we dug out the dry rot . Because it’s a fungus, it’s important to remove the infected areas and hinder its discovery of healthy wood
  • We made sure that the remaining wood was completely dry
  • Coated the surface with a hardening agent. This adds a layer of strength and reinforcement
  • We used Flex Tec for the actual repair process
  • We patched
  • Finally, we sanded, primed, and painted two coats

As a side note, our fantastic Mike also needed to cut and insert customized, small pieces of wood to fill a gap by the large bay window. This was because the damage had spread almost into the interior side of the window!
