Repainting Exterior Aluminum Trim in City Heights
Chism Brothers Painting was previously contracted by a homeowner in City Heights to repaint the whole exterior. The trim around the home was a pre-finished aluminum, that customer didn't know could be painted. We recommended repainting them because of their bleached and oxidized appearance. A few weeks after we finished the main exterior we returned to paint the aluminum window frames.
The previous installers had used silicone at every joint and had affixed the silicone to the stucco, but since paint does not stick to silicone, it ended up making the overall appearance dingy and unfinished. The silicone had also accumulated grime and mildew, so first we cleaned the window frames with bleach and krud cutter cleaner. Next, we caulked over all the silicone with latex caulking so our paint would adhere. To prepare the aluminum surface for paint, we applied 2 coats of Sherwin Williams Pro Industrial DTM (direct to metal). For the final paint coats we used Benjamin Moore's Burnt Cinnamon , and adjusted the color to match the homeowner's preference.
