Can Thermofoil Cabinets Be Painted?

Thermofoil cabinets are a popular option for kitchens and bathrooms because of their durability and moisture resistant quality.

Thermofoil Cabinets Receiving Paint

Thermofoil cabinets can be painted if proper painting methods are used. When the right preparation and primer is applied, a repaint job can last for a good ten years or longer. Naturally, the more wear, moisture and traffic/contact (from dogs, children, etc), the sooner the finish will fade or even chip, just like any other cabinet finish. Typically the best and most durable cabinet finishes work best on wood surfaces, not thermofoil. However, we have had good results painting thermofoil cabinets. Overall there is not much difference in painting thermofoil and regular cabinets. The cost to paint them is normally about the same as wood cabinets that will be painted a solid color.
