Repairing and Painting Termite Damage Around a Window

Last Updated: July 15, 2016

Window frame with decaying wood, white trim, reflected plants and sky.

As you likely know, termite damage is a common problem, and especially so here in the San Diego area. Because of this, we are frequently asked to undo the damaging effects of their handiwork around our clients’ homes.

If only we could somehow convince them to use their industrious work ethic for good…

In any event, this particular property has a window that had apparently been termite-central. As you can see, the wood is badly decayed and damaged, and we were asked to restore the surface. Dave, one of our craftsmen, did a phenomenal job of completely repairing the damage, bringing back a solid, beautiful surface.

Repairing (Not Just Covering) Termite Damage

You can watch the progression in the slideshow above, but here are his specific steps:

  • Dave began by removing all the damaged wood. Again, for a true restoration, the bad wood needs to go.
  • Step #2 and #3 included sealing, filling, and shaping the areas with flex tech primer
  • Sanding
  • Priming and painting!
