Tudor Style Home Exterior Repainting in La Jolla

Last Updated: November 11, 2013

Project Description

This was a very large English tudor style home nestled in the beach community of Birdrock in La Jolla. The homeowners are new customers who moved from the east coast. The tudor boards on their home were separating from the stucco and the wood French windows and doors on the house had general beach type weathering and failure . Mike and Pat Chism actually painted this home over 20 years ago. It had since been painted again by another contractor, then we were hired by the new owners again.

Project Process

We patched the stucco where necessary and for extra quality, we applied elastomeric patching compound by brush at the edge of the tudor boards to seal them to the stucco. We sprayed mildew sealer over the top of the areas while still wet then brushed it all out accordingly to match textures.

For the wood, windows and doors, we scraped and grinded all the failed areas to a smooth surface then spot primed with Zinsser 123 primer. Then we applied a onepass patching compound followed by more sanding and another prime coat.

Colors & Products Used On Exterior

After preparing all the surfaces, we sprayed liquid mask on all the glass. Then we sprayed a coat of Sherwin Williams Superpaint , ' Bungelow Beige ' on all stucco, tudor boards, eaves, windows, doors. Next, we masked off all the stucco and sprayed the tudor boards and eaves with Sherwin Williams ' Black Fox '. Then we sprayed the French doors and windows with Sherwin Williams ' Keystone Gray ' in Solo latex enamel. The front door was sprayed with Sherwin Williams ' Needlepoint Navy ' in Solo latex enamel.
