Redwood Home Restoration Project

Last Updated: April 7, 2013

This house is almost completely made of redwood. A previous owner painted over some of it with green paint, so the homeowner wanted us to restore these areas to match the rest of the home.

The Restoration Process

For the window, we stripped the wood and stained it to match the rest of the house. The siding is the south side of the house and had been severely neglected by the previous owners. We stripped what material that was left on it with Superdeck Deck Stripper, cleaned it and bleached it twice, then brightened it twice with Superdeck Brightener. The house became quite dark with the new stain because of the wide open grain, but now is protected. If the homeowner maintains the siding well , by cleaning, bleaching and restaining every 2-3 years , it will lighten up and even out over the next several years.
