Popular Kitchen Cabinet Colors for 2022

Last Updated: April 15, 2022

Turquoise kitchen cabinets with stainless steel appliances and dark countertops.

We’re seeing an exciting shift in cabinet paint colors…

For decades you really had two major options when it came to kitchen cabinet colors: natural stain, or white. Sure, there were other trends that flared up here and there, but those have been the major pillars for quite a while.

And guess what? Both are still “in.” We paint a LOT of white cabinets here in San Diego, and those crisp, clean, inviting palettes are as attractive as ever.

But we’re also seeing a shift in cabinet color trends.

Blue and green kitchen cabinets are super popular

Here are a few key reasons why.

  • They offer a timeless look. We hate saying “trendy” because that has a kind of negative connotation since trends are so fickle. Blue and green are trendy for sure, but they’re also a timeless choice with an evergreen popularity that just happens to be particularly popular right now.
  • So many options! By picking different shades and hues you can smoothly pivot from a warm, country vibe to ultra-modern. Still blue or green, but just playing with the specific variety.
  • Calming and natural. Both blue and green are colors rooted in nature, and proven to create feelings of calm and tranquility. Perfect for busy central spaces!
  • Pairs well with natural stain. Combining paint and natural wood finishes is another timeless look, and both blue and green work very well with stained accents. Think exposed shelving, butcher block counters, and even finished wood floors.
