How Much Should I Spend For Paint?

Last Updated: September 27, 2011

Person's hand holds a silver metal can, money flowing out. Bills include $50 and appear to be falling.

The cost of paint varies directly with the quality of paint. When buying paint, the most expensive paint is almost always the best quality.

Paint can range in price anywhere from $18 to $70 dollars per gallon. Someone might wonder, why would anyone pay for the premium products when they are more than triple the price? The answer is simple: the premium products last up to twice as long as the cheaper paints.

Why to spend more on quality paint:

When buying paint, it doesn’t save money long-term to buy the cheaper products. In the painting process, paint is usually only 10% of the total project cost, therefore it is smarter to invest in better quality paint which won’t much affect the total project cost, but will save more in the long run.

After weighing these facts, essentially it is up to the buyer how much he wants to spend on paint. The main thing to remember is that the better quality the paint, the longer it will last, and vice-versa.
