This exterior painting project in the Hillcrest neighborhood involved a number of different painting and staining tasks. And honestly, we love that! Time and again we like to remind our San Diego clients that routine maintenance and upkeep pays off in a big way, keeping your surfaces protected and driving down the cost of future repaints.
Work in priority, as needed, checking items off your to-do list rather than waiting for an all-or-nothing, extensive painting project.
In this case, we had a few key objectives:
There are actually a number of benefits:
Are there downsides? Well, since solid stain shares a lot of similarities with paint, it means that you’re committed to more routine upkeep and touch-ups. That’s not a huge deal in many cases though since stain needs to be cared for anyway.
Also, solid stain hides the natural beauty of wood. If you have a beautiful surface like our client’s door, that can be an issue (which is why we used a more transparent stain on that particular woodwork). But if you’re staining planters, railings, benches, and other higher-traffic surfaces that aren’t a showcase item, solid makes a lot of sense.
