A Closer Look At Exterior House Painting in the San Diego Area

Last Updated: August 17, 2017

A successful house painting project involves not only keeping an eye on the technical details of the project, but also the relational. After all, we’re painting homes belonging to our friends and neighbors, and this calls for a level of trust that we take seriously.

In this case, communication in particular was extremely important. A member of the household was recovering from a medical procedure, and we needed to accommodate the traffic of medical personnel. We also wanted to offer one less thing to worry or think about for our clients by providing consistent, considerate service.

Lead Painter Bernie and his team did a fantastic job navigating these considerations and keeping the communication flowing.

A Drastic Exterior Color Change

The exterior color change for this project was a drastic one (but definitely a good choice). Specifically, we changed from a very light body color to Regatta (6517) from Sherwin-Williams. As you can see in the pictures above, it’s a beautiful blue, and provides a gorgeous, sharp contrast with the trim.

The home itself was in great condition and needed minimal prep work to be ready for paint. After a little experimentation, we decided that one coat of latex primer followed by two finish coats provided perfect coverage. To achieve the right, tight stipple, we sprayed the paint in place, then backrolled.

Attention to detail...

Because of the stark contrast between the new siding color and the trim, there was zero margin for error when it came to keeping straight, razor-sharp lines. Precise masking was essential, but the effort certainly paid off in a big way.
